Everest Base Camp trek is the challenging trek of Nepal. The base camp trek was ranked in the world’s 10th best trek in 2003. It is one of the popular and most busy treks in the Khumbu region. Everest Base Camp is located in the Himalayas of Nepal at a height of 5,364m. meters. It gives you the stunning view of Mount Everest. It is the highest peak in the world standing at the height of 8848m which was named after Sir George Everest. It is also known as Sagarmatha. In 1993, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norway first reached the summit.
The Everest Base Camp trek starts from a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The trek duration is 16 days. The trek takes up to the DudhKoshi Valley and reaches to famous Namche Bazar which is the capital of Sherpa community. Namche Bazar is the trading center of the Khumbu region and is filled with restaurants, bars, jewelry shops, local crafts, and many more.
This region also provides a home to various plants and animals that are preserved inside the Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha National Park was enlisted in World Heritage by UNESCO. Animals like Mountain goat, Snow leopard, Red Panda, Musk deer, Himalayan Tahr, and birds like Lophophorus, pheasant, munals, and hawk are seen. You will pass through alpine forests, rhododendron forests, twisting trails, Sherpa bazaar and towns, waterfalls, farmlands, and so on. You will get to see magnificent views of mountains like Mt Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8485m), Cho Oyu (8201m), AmaDablam (6812m), Nuptse (7855m), and so on.
This region is primarily inhabited by Sherpa people having religious culture, tradition, norms, and values. You will get to experience their wonderful hospitality and also get to know their lifestyle. In the village, you will encounter prayer walls. Colorful Tibetan flags, monasteries, temples, local homes, and so on. Visit the “Tengboche Monastery” which is one of the famous and important monasteries of Buddhist has been named as UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also ascend to Kala Patthar which stands at the altitude of 5500m gives you the stunning view of Mt. Everest.
Everest Base Camp trek also known as teahouse trek has four seasons- summer, spring, autumn, and winter. The summer season (June, July, and August) is not popular for trekking as monsoon season coincides with summer in Nepal.
The winter season (December, January, and February) is too cold and the snow blocks the road, so trekking routes are closed. The autumn season (September, October, and November) is popular to trek EBC as the temperature is moderate and you will get to see clear views. The spring season (March, April, and May) is awesome to trek EBC as you can see the views of rhododendron and pine forests. During this season, the mountains and glaciers also bring out their best color.
