The Annapurna Region lies in western Nepal where most of the popular trekking routes are located. This region is the biggest rival for the Everest Region as it is also considered as one of the best treks in the world. Over 100,000 trekkers come to the Annapurna Region every year. It is because of the view and the easiness of the trekkers that the trail to reach get to this region. A pleasant 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu takes you to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city perfect for adventure tourism in Nepal.

As suggested, the name of this region, Annapurna Region, comes from Mt. Annapurna. It is the centrepiece in which all treks of this region revolve. Reaching the height of 8,019m / 26,545ft, and soaring high above the clouds, it is the 10th highest peak in the world.

Also, to the west of Mt. Annapurna lies Mt.  Dhaulagiri with the height of 8,167m / 26,795ft becoming the world’s 7th highest mountain in the world. Dhaulagiri got its name from the Sanskrit word which is ‘Dhawala’ meaning dazzling white beautiful. With these two colossal peaks make the Kali Gandaki river gorge, which is believed to be the deepest gorge in the world.

Talking besides the snowy beautiful high mountains, Annapurna Region much more to offer. Most treks of this region start from villages centred by fertile farmland and lush. The experience to interact with the native villagers are worth every difficulty during the trip. You can feel the warmth and great hospitality of the villagers. Most residents of these villages are ethnically Gurung and Magar. A great people who will welcome you with a big smile to their wonderful homes. As they follow Buddhism, different flags, stupas and monasteries can be found at different places of this region.

Above the fertile farmland, you can see the verdant forest in which many animals are kept. This is because Annapurna Region is the largest protected area in Nepal. Many animals can be seen due to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
